KIND-hearted women from Inner Wheel Clubs across the country have raised £38,321 to help flood-hit folk in Cumbria and Lancashire.
Donations from coffee evenings, raffles and other events held by the women's voluntary organisation were totted up by local district secretary Sheila Preston and treasurer Kath Brown.
"We were absolutely amazed," Sheila told the Gazette. "When we started off we thought it might be £5,000 if we were lucky."

Inner Wheel Club members in Kendal, Keswick, Appleby, Cockermouth and north Lancashire had been personally affected by the floods and were 'still mopping up', said Sheila.
Some £5,000 of the money raised has been given to Lancashire's flood appeal, with the remainder to Cumbria Community Foundation's flood recovery appeal.
