The Coniston Foxhounds met at the Mortal Man Inn in Troutbeck to celebrate the annual Mayor’s Hunt.
This is a tradition that goes back centuries and follows the Mayor Making Ceremony, held in the village the night before.
Since the late 1700s the hunting community has chosen a ‘Mayor’, whose role is mainly to organise next year's event, choose their successor and attend various village events over the coming 12 months.
This year’s Mayor is Neil Salisbury, who has been a life long supporter of the Coniston Foxhounds. He succeeds Nick Mowbray, a Joint Master of the Hunt who has held the position previously.
Guest of honour was Sir Johnnie Scott Bart, who entertained a packed house at the Mayor Making Ceremony held at Troutbeck Village Institute. e regaled the audience with amusing anecdotes of his partnership with the late Clarissa Dixon-Wright during their well-known BBC TV Series Clarissa & The Countryman.
