The Yorkshire Dales could see flat caps replaced by sequins and wax jackets swapped for saris if movie moguls at the Bollywood equivalent to the Oscars take a shine to the scenery next month.

From June 7-10, Yorkshire will be rolling out the red carpet for the prestigious International Indian Film Academy Awards, a high-profile event attended by the Asian movie-world's biggest movers and shakers.

While the annual awards, previously hosted by Johannesburg and Singapore, will fill Yorkshire cities with premieres, A-list appearances and glitzy award bashes, the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority is hoping to sell the park scenery as a potential stage.

The awards are expected to attract 28,000 visitors to Yorkshire during June, boosting the local economy by an estimated £9.5 million.

While rural areas will miss out to Sheffield, Leeds, Bradford and York in terms of attracting big name stars such as Shilpa Shetty, Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai - star of the 2004 hit film Bride and Prejudice - a number of themed workshops and events are taking place in the Dales.

A free fun day, complete with Indian dancing, henna hand painting and delicacies from the Asian menu, will involve Hawes in the celebrations on June 3.

The day will also give visitors the chance to see a free exhibition of photography at the museum, contrasting romantic Dales views with inspiring Indian images.
