TRAIN travellers heading up and down the West Coast Main Line faced delays on Wednesday afternoon after a man died on the tracks near Morecambe.
British Transport Police said the man, who is believed to be in his 30s and from the Lancaster area, died after a Virgin Train service struck him near the Morecambe South junction by Hasty Brow Road at 1.50pm.
The 13.40 London Euston to Lancaster service was heading to Morecambe for operational reasons after terminating at Lancaster.
BTP spokesman John Ratcliffe said: "The driver reportedly saw the man standing on the track and he stepped out in front of the oncoming train. There were no passengers on board at the time of the incident, which is not being treated as suspicious."
