THE latest compact SUV to hit UK roads is set to arrive in South Lakeland soon. Staff at ES Hartley, at Ings, near Kendal, are making space for the Jeep Compass, the newest design from the American manufacturer.
The Compass is the first Jeep with a fully independent suspension system and comes with a choice of two engines: a 2-litre six speed manual engine and a 2.4-litre petrol engine with a five speed manual or automatic gearbox.
Neil Worrall, dealer principal, said the brand was constantly evolving.
"I'm sure this family hatchback sized car will help our dealership explore new territory and fresh business opportunities.
"Motorists who may not have previously considered buying an SUV could well change their minds when they see that the Compass offers a competitive package of size, performance and fuel economy."
The Compass has an active four-wheel drive system, which means the car operates in front wheel drive for 90 per cent of the time and automatically switches to 4x4 when more traction is required.
This results in benefits for the driver in everyday driving conditions such as wet and icy roads.
Prices for the Jeep will start at £17,995.
