THE response to our forums, blogs, videos and comments has demonstrated a healthy appetite for getting online and interacting with others. With the recent launch of our new web-first site, www.thebarrowbrowser. co.uk, supporting our monthly shopper newspaper, the community news focus is getting even stronger.
This quick guide will help you use all the tools of the interactivity trade - and get the most out of being on our sites (www.thewest morlandgazette.co.uk, www.thelancaster andmorecambecitizen.co.uk and www.the barrowbrowser.co.uk ).
- News items - Go to Send Us Your News section on the site. Select the office and department best suited to your story, complete the form and press send. It will be emailed to us.
- Comments - Stories on the site, which have Comment icon on the top of the page, allow the public to post a comment. We have had a number of comments on everything from the quirky, like the Burnt Chair story, to the controversial, to tributes to someone who has died.
- Forum topics - The Forum http:// forum.thewestmorlandgazette.co.uk has a number of sections where members of the public can create new topics or join in existing ones to post opinions for discussion. Register first on the Forum section, then log in whenever you wish to participate. If you want a new Forum category created, contact us. Each website has its own forum.
- Bloggers - We have a number of bloggers covering everything from going green, to horse racing, to football, to employment law, to travelling abroad. Anyone with an idea for a blog (an online diary) is invited to contact me, Kate Whiteside, at kate.whiteside@kendal.newsquest.co.uk with your idea.
- Videos - The site will accept short videos, (two minutes is the best length) which capture community happenings or events. These need to be submitted as an wmv or QuickTime file attached to an email to me, web editor Kate Whiteside at kate.whiteside@kendal.newsquest. co.uk or posted on disc to one of our offices.
We have also just launched our first Video Competition - Two Minutes in My Community at http://www.thewestmor landgazette.co.uk/news/kendalvideocompcommunity/ .
Call for advice first at 01539-710183 or 01229-588634.
- Photographs - If you have images of events and want them to considered for publication online or in print, check our Photo Gallery section for details on how to submit - whether directly from your mobile phone, via email or post. Our news sections and Public Gallery host a number of pictures members send in, capturing activities or scenes from their communities.
