A TAXI business has given a new meaning to the term meals on wheels after its latest vehicle, dedicated to delivering takeaways to customers' doorsteps, took to the road.
Theo's Taxis in Kendal launched the service last month and proprietor Simon Hayton said he had been delighted with the feedback to date.
He spent several thousands of pounds converting a VW Transformer so it can carry hot food takeaways and the vehicle also doubles as a mobile office for taxi bookings.
Vantech at Burneside customised the vehicle's interior, kitting it out with a heater to ensure takeaway meals arrive at customers' homes as hot as when they left the restaurant.
Three Indian restaurants in the town, along with a fish and chip shop, have so far taken up the service and Mr Hayton hopes more will come on board.
