EFFORTS to improve parking facilities in Kirkby Stephen on busy days have been praised by an Eden MP.

MP for Penrith and the Border David Maclean has welcomed the work of a variety of bodies including police, residents and local authorities to resolve parking difficulties in Kirkby Stephen on auction days.

Following complaints from residents of Fletcher Hill Park, a multi-agency task force was formed and agreed to a variety of measures, including the continuation of the police "no-waiting cone" restrictions and auctioneers Harrison and Hetherington will attempt to locate a local field to open for parking on auction days.

Measures will also be taken to ensure that excess litter does not accumulate in the town on auction days by providing extra refuse collection bags while Harrison and Hetherington will make sure that rubbish is cleared from Faraday Road.

"This is a great result for the people of Fletcher Hill Road and indeed Kirkby Stephen. I know that all involved will be delighted with the result as I know there was a horse fair on April 21 and no complaints were received - that is a result," said Mr Maclean.
