THE Magic Hat Ensemble claim to make something different out of something familiar, turning jazz standards into breathtaking arrangements by adding tunes of their own devising.
On Saturday (May 26) they will be recording their live gig in Ambleside, so they can include it on their forthcoming album, which will be full of the type of tunes that secured the five-piece coveted slots at the Wigan and Manchester Jazz Festivals.
Featuring Steve Chadwick on trumpet/cornet, Andrzej Baranek on piano, guitarist Tony Ormesher, bassist Nick Blacka and Rob Turner on drums, the ensemble are performing at Zefferellis for free, with their first set at 7.45pm.
Please note: the band occasionally wear hats but none so far have turned out to be magical.
