AN APPEAL for a litter-busting volunteer is being made in Kirkby Stephen after a significant increase in the amount of rubbish strewn around the Jubilee Park area. The appeal is being made after town council clerk Jeanette Cooper took matters into her own hands and cleared up a large area of the park littered with flyers and postcards.
Kirkby Stephen Town Council used to have a volunteer who went about collecting litter keeping the area tidy. Now the litter problem is getting worse, councillors are seeking someone to help out again. "It's quite clear we have a problem in Jubilee Park and there is often broken glass in the summer house," said town council chairman Alex Birtles. "We would like to ask for another volunteer to come forward - if not we will have to look at arranging litter picks on a rota basis." Anyone who would like to help out can contact the town council through the community centre on 017683 -71325 or by emailing ccc@kirkbystephen.f9.co.uk.
