CONCERNED parents in Grange-over-Sands determined to see a £3.5 million swimming pool reopen have launched a campaign to highlight the effect of its loss on the community, reports Caroline Beamish.
The group has already collected more than 600 signatures in the town in support of getting Berners Pool open again after it was closed last July owing to financial pressures.
Now they are planning to present the petition to both South Lakeland District Council and Grange Town Council in a bid to show how strongly residents and visitors to the town feel about the facility.
They also say it is desperately needed to enable children in the area to learn to swim.
Head teacher of Grange Primary School Colin Milner this week added his weight to the campaign with a call for Berners Pool to reopen.
South Lakeland District Council chief executive Mike Jones confirmed the authority was set to invite private companies to tender for the running of Berners later this month
