SPEEDING motorists could be snapped by cameras anywhere on Cumbria's roads under a radical new plan aimed at cutting the number of deaths on the county's highways.
Safety camera operators are launching Operate Anywhere' to drive down the number of foot-to-the-floor motorists and catch drivers who manipulate the system.
The region, which is one of the first in the country to try the new tactic, will see cameras appear on just about every road in the county and, in some cases, see cameras double up on roads used as race tracks.
Cumbria Safety Cameras said the move had the support of the county's residents. Results of an independent survey showed that 60 per cent of people would be in favour of safety cameras being able to operate anywhere in the county rather than just at the current fixed sites.
Operation Anywhere' will begin on June 1.
