IT MAY have been their first bite of the action outside the Big Apple, but the mesmerising moves and streetwise steps of New York's trendiest dance troupe got more than the odd foot tapping in Kendal.

From the mean streets of Brooklyn to the dimly lit stage of The Brewery, the Decadance Theater girls proved a few good beats were all that was needed to make themselves at home as they added their names to the star-studded list of acts playing the Women's Arts International Festival.

Lauded by The New York Times and having enjoyed appearances on MTV, their unusual blend of hip hop and ballet was so carefully choreographed it would make the likes of J-Lo weep.

Costumes, lighting and some masterful mixing on the decks all contributed to the buzz that filled the Brewery theatre.

And despite an energetic 90 minute routine, not a foot went out of place, nor (amazingly) a dancer out of breath as the cheering Kendal crowd danced along to hip hop classics from the likes of Lauren Hill, Tupac and the Jimmy Castor Bunch.

It's little wonder artistic director Jennifer Weber picked up the New York Fringe Festival's excellence in Choreography Award.
