FOOTBALL: Carvetii United first team and the reserves have been battling for cup final glory in the Talbot Insurance Westmorland League this week.

Newly-crowned Second Division champions, the Kirkby Stephen side were set to meet fellow promotion winners Ambleside United in the Mason and Freeman Cup final on Tuesday evening but, because of parking considerations, the big match was switched from its original venue of Lunesdale United FC to Kendal Town's ground at Parkside Road.

Meanwhile, Carvetti surrendered their unbeaten league record to third-placed Penrith Rangers in a 2-1 defeat last Wednesday, but finished their fixtures on a high with an 8-1 win at Ullswater.

Penrith's victory made Saturday's clash with Ambleside United a promotion decider but a 2-2 draw means Ambleside finish second, nine points adrift of the champions.

This Friday Carvetii Reserves contest the Division 3 Peter Daws Memorial Shield final in a derby clash with Lunesdale United Res at Penrith FC (6.45pm).

Elsewhere, Kendal County, the First Division titlewinners, kept their unbeaten record with a 3-3 draw against Wetheriggs on Saturday.

County go for a league and cup double when taking on Keswick in the High Sheriff's Cup final at Coniston on Thursday (6.45pm kick-off).
