A MAJOR military training exercise will see aircraft from across the world take over the skies above northern England next week.

Exercise Wycombe Warrior is a multi-national combined force exercise designed to provide air, land and sea forces with an opportunity to engage in "real time" training with electronic warfare technology.

There will be aircraft from eight NATO countries taking part in the exercise - including the USA, France and Germany - and the RAF is telling people to expect "increased air activity" over a three-day period, from May 8-10, up to 11pm at night.

The exercise will take part in airspace across the UK but a significant part of the training will centre around the electronics warfare tactics range at RAF Spadeadam, on the Cumbria/Northumberland and Scottish borders.

Around 300 sorties - involving high, medium and low-level flying - will take place during the exercise.
