PARENTS and staff at a South Lakeland school are joining forces to take part in a charity walk in memory of a treasured colleague who died last month.

The group of 13 parents and five members of staff at Elleray Preparatory School, in Windermere, decided to take part in the sponsored CancerCare StarWalk following the death of Veronica Sharphouse, who was aged 61.

Mrs Sharphouse, who had worked at the school for nine years as the special educational needs co-ordinator, was diagnosed with cancer just 15 days before her death in April.

With each member of the group already appealing for sponsors, it is hoped they will raise as much cash as possible for the Lancaster and South Lakeland-based charity that provides help and support to people living with the disease.

The group will join 1,100 other women from across the region at lakes leisure Kendal (formerly Kendal Leisure Centre) at midnight, on Saturday, May 12, for the 9.3-mile walk around the town.
