A GOAL of the very highest quality from Ryan Elderton lit up Lancaster City - but still wasn't enough to earn the Dolly Blues a victory in their War of the Roses with Farsley Celtic.
Local hero Elderton scored one of the goals of the season against the Tykes after Lee Sparks beat two men and found Lee Foxcroft before the ball made its way to Elderton.
The former Stockport County and Blackburn Rovers man had much to do but kept his nerve to slam a stunning right-foot shot from 20 yards into the top corner with Celtic keeper Paul Cuss grasping at thin air.
It was a real bright moment for City - and they could have taken the lead early in the game when Leon Gierke hit the crossbar with a volley before the well travelled Simeon Bambrook lashed home the opener.
Keeper James Brindle then saved marvellously from former Bradford City and Halifax Town striker Gareth Grant and it was 1-0 to the visitors at the break.
But Elderton's special levelled the game only for Farsley to go straight down the other end and they should have recalimed their lead as Ash Allinson headed over from half-a-dozen yards.
Then disaster struck for the Dolly Blues as Brindle flapped at a corner and the ball went in via Damian Reeves.
