THE threatened tourist information centre at Broughton-in-Furness has been saved thanks to the intervention of a group of local people.
A new company, Broughton Information Centre Ltd, has been formed to run the service after South Lakeland District Council considered closure of the operation at the end of the financial year.
And the company's directors have promised to expand the centre's services, with particular emphasis on providing information for local residents.
The not-for-profit company was created after a number of public meetings were held to discuss ways of saving the centre, which operates in the Old Town Hall, The Square, Broughton.
