IN Eden District Council elections, 17 candidates out of the 30 available wards are set to return unopposed.
The most hotly contested seat is the Penrith North with five candidates, two from the Tories and three Lib Dems, looking to take three seats.
The district council is currently held by the Tories with a majority of 15 seats while the Lib Dems claimed 10 seats at the last poll.
Labour are completely unrepresented with the Independent Alliance defending nine seats which gave them third party status.
With four wards, the Independent Group, led by Appleby’s Keith Morgan, complete Eden’s political demographic.
In the Lancaster City elections, there are 60 candidates battling to take 27 possible wards. Labour currently hold the balance of power with 21 seats but the Tories are snapping at their heels with 15. The Greens have 10 seats and there are 15 candidates from the Morecambe Bay Independents, the Free Independents and non-party Independents.
