LABOUR candidate for Morecambe and Lunesdale, Amina Lone, believes her campaign has been given a boost after her party revealed plans for more than 1,000 new GPs in the North West.
Labour says it will fund 8,000 new GPs nationally through a mansion tax on the most expensive properties, with around 1,100 in the North West, as part of its Time to Care policy to restore front-line staff in the NHS and improve care.
Ms Lone said: “People in Morecambe and Lunesdale are constantly telling me of the struggles they face to get a GP appointment at a time that suits them or within 48 hours. Despite Tory pledges in 2010, there’s now fewer GPs in England and less money to ensure surgeries are open at times that work for people with jobs or caring responsibilities.”
“Labour will turn this around, funding a large increase in the number of GPs through the mansion tax, ensuring there are enough doctors to improve access for Morecambe and Lunesdale residents, as well as taking the pressure off our local hospitals.”
