PEOPLE in Cumbria have been warned that terrorism could exist "on their doorstep" and are being urged to help tackle it by reporting signs of suspicious or unusual activity.

Police have issued a message of if you suspect it, report it', to the people who live in, work in or visit the county. The plea is part of a national clampdown by police on terrorist activity.

Crime prevention officer Terry Belshaw said that people should be aware that the problem could exist on their doorstep.

Mr Belshaw said people should look out for occurrences such as more people than necessary congregating at a particular address.

He also said shopkeepers should be aware of people making out of the ordinary' purchases or buying chemical components in large measures and accommodation owners should look out for suspicious guests.

Posters advising the public what to look out for are to be displayed throughout the county.
