Cumbria-based charity, Action for Blind People, has received £500 from women's organisation, Windermere & District Soroptimists to help build a library of audio description of movie DVDs.
Part of the money will be spent on a library of audio-described DVDs for blind and partially sighted guests staying at the charity's Windermere Manor Hotel.
Christopher Lawrence, Manager of the Windermere Manor Hotel, said, "We are very grateful to the Soroptimists and we are delighted to be able to offer our guests audio-described movies when they stay with us on holiday. When you think that 38% of blind and partially sighted people have had no holiday at all in the last five years, when people do come on holiday, we like to offer them a whole range of indoor and outdoor activities."
Maureen Daniels from Windermere & District Soroptimists, spoke of their decision to provide funding.
"I've met many visually impaired people out and about locally who are staying at the Windermere Manor Hotel. Guests always speak so highly of both the hotel and the support given to them by Action for Blind People, so the Soroptimists decided to fundraise for the charity with an afternoon tea and bridge competition."
The money will also go towards specialist computer equipment which will be available on loan from Action for Blind People, to visually impaired people living in Cumbria.
