MARSH United took another major step towards claiming the North Lancashire League Premier Division title as they won the match of the season on Saturday.United went head-to-head with reigning champions Storeys at the York Road ground with the winners knowing they would be in the box seat for the crown.And the prolific Kevin Coulton did the damage as he scored the only goal for Marsh as they recorded a memorable victory.The win takes them three points clear of their main rivals with a game in hand - and Marsh also have an astonishing six games in hand on leaders TIC Dynamos, who hold a single point advantage at the summit.Dynamos recent sticky spell came to an end as the season-long leaders remained defiant. They went nap at Caton United as Mark Wiggins blasted a hat-trick with Lee Cardwell and Peter Sharp netting the others.Russell Mitchell bagged a brace and Craig Holmes found the net as Highgrove beat Galgate 3-0 to stay in third spot, while Westgate Wanderers enjoyed a rare day of success as they beat Boys Club 2-1 to move out of the bottom two.Wayne Rowlands and Kevin Armistead found the net for Wanderers as Dean Robinson scored for Boys Club, who remain rooted to the foot of the table. Carnforth Rangers maintained their pursuit of promotion into the top flight as they thumped Ingleton Reserves 5-0. Lee Watson and Alec Gorton bagged braces with Matt Garwood scoring the other in the romp.Storeys Reserves and Burton Thistle played out an amazing 4-4 draw and Morecambe Royals Reserves and Bentham shared six goals.Morecambe Hoops stayed on top of Division Two as they beat Halton Rangers 2-0, while Middleton Reserves did their goals scored column a power of good as they thumped Swarthmoor Reserves 7-1. Phil Oliver led the way with a hat-trick and Bruno Oliver bagged a brace.Division Three saw the biggest win of the day as second-placed Central Pier hammered Grange Reserves 10-1 with hat-tricks for Joe Daley and Darren Mattinson and a brace for Gary Quirke - but that win still couldn't lift Pier above leaders Highgrove, who beat Boys Club Reserves 3-0.Overton maintained the pressure on Division Four leaders Heysham with a 6-1 win over Ingleton A as Graham Jackson and Alan Wright both scored two.* The presentation of the League Trophies will be held in the Dolly Blue Tavern at Giant Axe on Friday, May 11.
