THE chief executive of Cumbria County Council is recovering in hospital after undergoing a kidney transplant on Friday.
Peter Stybelski, 54, who has been in position for four years, was alerted that a suitable donor organ had been found on Thursday evening, just hours before he was admitted to Newcastle's Freeman Hospital.
The married father of one, who lives in Armathwaite, near Carlisle, had told only family, friends and a small circle of colleagues of his condition.
The operation was said to be a success and Mr Stybelski is beginning his recovery in hospital.
