Top cricketer Paul Nixon has been urged to give the opposition some Cumbrian clout' in the cricket World Cup.
The 36-year-old England and Leicestershire wicketkeeper, who grew up in the Eden village of Langwathby, made his World Cup debut on Friday in the defeat against New Zealand in St Lucia, and he also played in England's 51-run win over Canada on Sunday.
He has already said that he would "love to bring the World Cup back to Cumbria" - and now the county council is making sure he knows he has the full support of everyone in the county.
Coun Philip Chappelhow, Cumbria County Council's cabinet member responsible for sport and youth partnerships, said: "On behalf of all the people of Cumbria, I'd like to wish Paul the very best of luck in the West Indies. I'm sure he'll do his county and country proud."
