THE Cave Rescue Organisation was called to help a pair of walkers, from Leeds and York, who were doing the Three Peaks walk, and were approaching the summit of Whernside when they ran into difficulties as bad weather closed in on Saturday afternoon.
According to the CRO, they tried to shelter and sit it out but got progressively colder and eventually phoned the police for help. Contact was then lost due to poor mobile reception.
The Clapham-based CRO was called out to look for them and bring them to safety. Two search dogs were deployed along with a small number of team members. The walkers were located on Blea Moor making their way off the hill.
They were very cold and wet but otherwise uninjured. They were brought down to Ribblehead by CRO Land Rover and taken back to their car in Horton.
