STREET sellers wanting to trade during Appleby Fair can take advantage of a new one-day consent allowing greater flexibility to licensed traders for special occasions. Three people have already come forward wanting to sell baked goods and fruit and vegetables on the Sunday of fair week from the existing market site. The new policy will set a precedent for others wanting to trade on special occasions. The current street trading consent caters for people wishing to operate for either a six or 12-month period. Instead of paying £244 for a 12-month period, or £122 for six months, vendors would be charged £30 for one day. Appleby Town Council, the local police and Eden District Council's town centre officer have supported the move.
