FOOTBALL: Appleby salvaged a point in a 2-2 draw at home to Sedbergh Wanderers Reserves thanks to a goal four minutes from the end of Saturday's match in Division One of the Talbot Insurance Westmorland League.
The result leaves Appleby seventh of the 13 teams in the table and manager Jock' Nugent said: "I hope we have done enough to stay up, which was our objective this season."
Sedbergh took the lead inside the first quarter of an hour with a penalty after David Nugent bundled an opponent off the ball and Metcalfe obliged from the spot.
Appleby came more into the game and 17-year-old Mark Cossins scored a fine solo equaliser. But it was Sedbergh who took a 2-1 lead again through Metcalfe and Appleby survived a couple more Sedbergh chances in front of goal before Wilson floated over a cross and Parkin nodded the ball over the defence for the unmarked Kinnear to sidefoot in the final equaliser.
Appleby Res lost 2-0 to Wetheriggs Utd A in Division Three in a repeat of the sides' cup fixture last week, which also finished in favour of Wetheriggs at 2-1.
