SOUTH Lakeland's Fairtrade celebrations continued to roll out this week as two more towns achieved Fairtrade status, a Ugandan coffee farmer toured the area and a host of events was held to encourage people to Change Today - Choose Fairtrade.
Shops, cafes, churches, businesses and community groups have embraced the Fairtrade Fortnight campaign, in a bid to persuade people to buy products that carry the Fairtrade mark. Cumbria became home to 15 Fairtrade towns, villages and cities - the largest number in any county in the country - when Kirkby Lonsdale and Ulverston were crowned at the weekend.
Ugandan coffee farmer Samuel Magona, who has been touring Cumbria throughout the fortnight, presented Ulverston Fairtrade Group with its official Fairtrade Town certificate on Saturday morning before visiting Kirkby Lonsdale to do the same and join in an afternoon of celebrations.
