SPEED freaks can enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of motor racing at a new club which has opened in the Eden Valley.
Solway autograss race club has moved from its previous base in Silloth to Hay Close Farm, Calthwaite, near Penrith, and club officials are hoping to attract both drivers and spectators to its new home.
The club is having an open night at Penrith Rugby Club tonight (Wednesday, March 7) where there will be several cars on show and several drivers available to answer questions and give members of the public the chance to find out more about the sport.
Autograss takes place on an oval, natural soil track surface and, unlike banger racing, is a non-contact sport, however, due to the close nature of the racing, thrills and spills are never far away.
