Police are asking the public to keep cars clear of the A685 to allow them through unimpeded and thank them for their patience.

British Transport Police hope to withdraw from the site Monday, though the road will remain closed until the cranes have gone.

There is every chance the cranes will be de-rigged and escorted out sooner than expected, allowing us to open the road sooner than the predicted date of Wednesday. The timescale for having the railway up and running again is 7 to 10 days.

The public meeting on Tuesday evening, 8.30pm in Grayrigg Church will give the public a forum at which to speak face to face with representatives of British Transport Police, Cumbria onstabulary and Railtrack, where they hope to address fears and expectations.

The police ask the public to call the Cumbria Constabulary number - 0845 33 00 247 - if the Communications Centre are unable to deal with your query, please leave your details and ask for us to make contact with you.
