A GROUP of Kendal residents have joined together to launch a campaign aimed at cutting the amount of waste produced by the town.
The Cut Waste In Kendal (CWIK) campaign group was formed in response to a Cumbria County Council consultation meeting that looked at dealing with the problem of waste in the area, and it hopes to persuade local councils, businesses and residents to cut the amount of rubbish they generate and to recycle that which remains.
CWIK spokesman John Coopey said: "The group began its work by identifying a number of key tasks such as the promotion of existing schemes, the provision of recycling bins, encouraging residents to cut their use of plastic bags and exerting pressure on local supermarkets and retailers to cut waste generated by product packaging."
