CASH awards could be made to seasonal employees at a holiday park near Grange-over-Sands following a landmark ruling in the Court of Appeal.

A small number of current and former staff at the Haven Holidays-owned Lakeland Leisure Park in Flookburgh could now be among those to be recompensed by the company.

The awards, which will be made to eligible staff who worked and lived on site between 2004 and 2005, were made following an employment tribunal brought against Bourne Leisure Group - which owns both Butlins and Haven Holidays companies - by HM Revenue and Customs in 2005.

It was ruled that a move by the company to deduct £6 per fortnight from staff living on site to cover utility bills was improper as it meant pay fell below the minimum wage.

A statement issued on behalf of Butlins and Haven Holidays, stated both companies were now carefully considering the ruling.
