They say one person's rubbish is another person's treasure - this is certainly true for Motability which, in partnership with the Recycling Appeal, is running a campaign to turn old mobile phones and used printer cartridges into much needed funds to help disabled people.

When mobiles and cartridges are binned they usually end up in landfill sites where they can cause pollution - as they slowly break down, chemicals can leak into the surrounding soil.

Recycling mobile phones and printer cartridges is better for the environment and through this appeal, will help Motability with its fundraising effort too - the charity will receive £5 for every phone and £1 for every cartridge that is recycled.

Aine Canavan, from Motability's fundraising team said: "With fancy new mobiles coming onto the market every month, people are replacing their handsets more than ever. The old ones usually end up being binned or thrown into a cupboard or drawer.

"Lots of offices throw away their inkjet and toner cartridges too - why not donate them to us instead? You'll be helping our valuable work and helping to protect our environment at the same time. We need to keep raising funds to help those disabled people who simply can't afford the mobility solution they need, from the right car and adaptations, to driving lessons to get them started."
