Elizabeth (Betty) Saville and her identical twin sister, Heather, were born in Littlehampton, West Sussex, but moved to Southport when they were four years old.

On leaving school Betty worked in local government for many years but a love of the Lake District drew her north. Seeking a new direction, Betty became one of the matrons at Windermere St Anne's School where her cheerful personality endeared her to the pupils and staff.

Betty helped with Scripture Union and the Guides, as well as supporting the pupils in a range of sporting activities including swimming, sailing and tennis.

Betty was a seasoned traveller and her flat in Spain gave her and the friends who accompanied her on holiday enormous pleasure for many years.

On her retirement she gave her time generously to her friends. The late sculptor Josefina de Vasoncellos was one of many people who appreciated Betty's practical care and concern. Betty undertook with joy her many duties in St Mary' Church, Windermere, where she sang in the choir.

She died, aged 67, at St John's Hospice, Lancaster, with her twin sister beside her.

Her funeral service was held in St Mary's Church and the service was conducted by Rev David Wilmot and the address given by the Venerable Bob Metcalfe, retired Archdeacon of Liverpool.

She leaves her twin Heather, brother-in-law the Rev Donald Pankhurst and half sister Barbara.
