ADAM Yates could make a dramatic return to the Morecambe side for the Conference clash with Cambridge United on Saturday after a remarkable recovery from injury.
The full-back was expected to be out for at least a fortnight after tweaking a hamstring.
But boss Sammy McIlroy says: "Yates joined in training and will have some more treatment and we will see how he is in the morning."
The Shrimps are without Chris Blackburn and Michael Twiss and should Yates be fit to play Ged Brannan would be likely to partner Jim Bentley in the heart of defence.
McIlroy has been frustrated in his search for loan players but striker Danny Carlton, Wayne Curtis and Jamie Burns all played for an hour in Thursday night's reserve match and are likely to feature as they return from injury.
"It was good to see them making a comeback and although they are not 100 per cent they will feature tomorrow if they don't have an adverse reaction.
"I tried hard to bring someone in on loan - but had no luck at all but we will see what the state is before we pick the team."
