SOMETIMES technological developments move so fast that it requires taking time to just take stock to really appreciate them. Since October we have embraced videos, podcasts, daily uploads, comments on stories, photos from the public, new bloggers and next on the list is forums. If you are wondering where it all is, here's a quick guide to what's new on www.thewestmorlandgazette.co.uk.
Videos - Go to News - Videos to find all our videos since we started producing them in late September. We produce about three a week on news, feature, sport and leisure topics. The most popular is the Starlings - at http://www.thewestmorlandgazette.co.uk/news/kendalgazettevideonews/.
We also take contributed videos like the local band Seven Seals' video of their latest hit and the Homes for the Future? series on affordable homes submitted by holmegroundproductions.co.uk.
If you have a video idea, or a video to submit for posting on our site, please contact us.
Podcasts - Go to Leisure - What's On. Each Monday we upload KHR DJ Phil Davies's What's On podcast about upcoming events in the area. He also reviews films and gigs. It's a great way to listen in on What's On.
We are also updating our What's On section Monday - Friday to help you plan your activities. Take a look at http://www.thewestmorlandgazette.co.uk/leisure/kendalwhatsonpodcast/.
Bloggers - They are everywhere. Our latest is ex-morning radio DJ Sarah Newman, who is taking off on a global adventure, starting Down Under first. Follow her travel blog in Lifestyle - Travel at http://www.thewestmorlandgazette.co.uk/lifestyle/kendaltravel/kendaltravelblogsarahn/. She started blogging just a few days ago and already has a number of comments posted.
Also blogging in this section are an environmental adventurer and a family who sold up and moved to France. We are also keen to encourage Sports Bloggers so, if you're interested, contact Richard.daniels@kendal.newsquest.co.uk.
Forums - We would like your ideas. If you think your community could benefit from having an online forum on our site, to address issues important to all, contact the Web Editor, Kate Whiteside (01539 710183 or kate.whiteside@kendal.newsquest.co.uk). Join in.
Photographs - We also accept photographs for the website. You can even send them in via your mobile phone. Details are in Photo Gallery - http://www.thewestmorlandgazette.co.uk/kendalphotogallery/.
Technology definitely has got its head around public interest. It seems these days you can easily get involved and have your say, post pictures or videos, keep in touch with family and friends instantly on your travels or create an online community. It is always more fun to be involved than to be on the side-lines.
If you have any ideas or questions, do get in touch.
