The Lake District's reputation as the place to head for winter breaks and autumn getaways is growing all the time, according to Cumbria Tourism.
New figures show 75 per cent of all businesses reported turnover during autumn and winter 2006 as being up or as good as the previous year.
Sixty two per cent also reported visitor numbers up or level during October, November and December. October was the best month for many tourism businesses and December was also significantly higher for many than the same period in 2005.
More businesses than ever in 2006 attributed the strong performance to investment in quality following major modernisation programmes to add contemporary creature comforts such as flat screen TVs, DVDs and under floor heating through to fashionable décor.
