A POTHOLE near Ingleton called The Big Meany proved true to its name at the weekend when a student became fast in a vertical shaft after nightfall.
A team of around 30 men from the Clapham-based Cave Rescue Organisation was scrambled to the scene at Leck Fell on Sunday where the 19-year-old man was stuck for three hours before being hauled out shortly before 10.30pm.
The CRO's duty controller, Jon Beavan, said the man, who was on a university expedition, was shaken but not hurt.
