FOR the seventh year in succession the number of young people and adults involved in Scouting in Eden District has gone up.
Since January 2006 there has been a 12 per cent increase in the district's membership - up from 599 to 673.
Helping towards this growth has been the reopening of the 2nd Eden Valley Scout Group in Kirkoswald with provision for Beaver Scouts (6-8 years) and Cub Scouts (8-11 years), and the formation of Scout Troops (11-14 years) meeting in Stainton and Ivegill.
But also, and most importantly, the growth has been maintained because of the commitment of the volunteer leaders who provide exciting programmes week by week for their members and the work of the development officer. Without them scouting would not be possible.
The year 2007 is an extra-special year as it is the Scout Association's centenary with added events to celebrate. Adults who would be interested in joining the great Scouting action should contact Adam Dickinson, development officer, 01768 862040. There is an urgent need for additional leaders in Shap; but also throughout the district to enable more youngsters to participate in Scouting activities.
