Parking in Lancaster city centre will now be free from 3pm in the run-up to Christmas.
The BID (Business Improvement District) has worked in partnership with the council to ensure free car parkingon all city council car parks in Lancaster city centre after 3pm on Monday to Friday.
This parking operation is a direct response to low trading levels in the city centre, and the BID is confident that this parking initiative will help increase footfall to local shops.

BID manager Liz Hickingbotham said: “I feel it is imperative that access to Lancaster city centre is as easy as possible for customers to ensure they choose to shop locally. We realise car parking has always been an issue in the city centre, and we hope that small changes like 'Free After Three' will have a positive impact on trade over the festive period.”
This parking scheme will take place every weekday from Thursday, December 11 and run through until Christmas Day.
Sunday parking will remain free throughout the entire day.
