A 76-year-old Kendal woman has died today following a one-vehicle crash on the A6 near the Shap Wells Hotel.
Police said Carole Christine Maltby, of High Sparrowmire, Hallgarth, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
She was a passenger in a red Suzuki Swift driven by a 51-year-old woman, also from the Kendal area, when the crash occured at around 9am.
The driver was taken to Royal Preston Hospital by air ambulance and was treated for minor injuries.

Earlier today police had warned motorists to take care on the roads after many woke up to find thick frost, black ice and freezing temperatures.
