A LED Zeppelin fan found himself face-to-face with his hero, Robert Plant, during Sunday lunch at an Eden pub.

Simon Robinson, who runs the Village Stores in Brough, spoke to the 66-year-old rock legend when he stopped off to eat with his band, the Sensational Shape Shifters, at The Inn at Brough.

The band, who are touring the UK, joined an impromptu Happy Birthday singalong for Simon's brother-in-law, Robert Armstrong, at the village pub.

"It was absolutely fantastic. I couldn't believe it," said Simon, who helps his brother Ben Robinson to run the Kendal Calling music festival.

"I've been a massive fan since I was about 14, when I started getting into Led Zeppelin. I've even got a tattoo on my left arm."

Simon said it was "a bit of a shock" for the Stairway to Heaven singer to walk into the restaurant as he was eating dessert, but added: "A lot of people say, you don't want to meet your heroes because it can be disappointing, but he was such a lovely, down-to-earth guy. He just blended in immediately."

Meanwhile, TV funny man and Lake District regular Steve Coogan was spotted in the area on Sunday.

The 49-year-old star of the small and big screen was seen in the Eltermere Inn, near Elterwater, with a friend.
