MORE than 60 people attended the opening of an exhibition charting the impact of the First World War on Grasmere. ‘Grasmere and the Great War’ launched at the Wordsworth Museum on Saturday, following a year of work by the Grasmere History Group.
Pictured are Adam Lines and Jessie Petheram, Curatorial Assistants at Dove Cottage, beside the temporary grave marker for Private Peascod, brought back from France and displayed as part of the exhibition.
One of the speakers at the event was John Taylor, nephew of Nellie Taylor, the only woman from Grasmere to die during action in the First World War.
