THE clocks were turned back more than 100 years in Kirkby Lonsdale at the weekend.
A helter skelter, silent parade, a blacksmith and a storyteller played their part in the town’s first Edwardian Weekend.
Once famous for its Victorian-themed weekend, the town took a small step forward to commemorate the beginning of the First World War – and it is hoped it will run for the four-year wartime duration.

“It went well and there was a good response from visitors and locals,” said Allan Muirhead, chair of the town council.
And despite a damp beginning to the weekend, which led to cancelling games, Mr Muirhead said the town was ‘humming’ with activity on Sunday.
An afternoon tea kicked the weekend off on Friday and it was rounded off with a production of The Accrington Pals in the Lunsedale Hall.
Market Place was closed to vehicles and instead became home to refreshments and entertainment including a Punch and Judy show.
