FIRST WORLD WAR FOLK TALES by Helen Watts and Taffy Thomas, £9.99 ISBN 978-0-750958325
RENOWNED Lake District story teller Taffy Thomas has joined forces with novelist Helen Watts for this commemorative book of tales connected to the Great War.
First World War Folk Tales follows the pair’s earlier collaborative venture -The Ghost of the Trenches and other stories from the First World War - which revealed 14 fascinating stories from the conflict.
Their excellent hardback sequel also includes supernatural goings-on in its rich story vein - tales with such evocative titles as The Angel of Mons, The Vision of the Virgin and The Haunted Hills.
The stories are not limited to the British Tommy’s experience of the Great War, but naturally include tales involving other nations, such as Russia, France and Germany.
Poems and words from hymns, including verse penned by William Wordsworth and Wilfred Owen, are also featured.
