Families can discover exactly which weird and wonderful creatures live in the pond at RSPB Leighton Moss this Easter when they visit the Silverdale nature reserve.
On Thursday April 10 and 17, staff and volunteers will be holding ‘What lives beneath?’ family pond dipping activities, allowing visitors to explore this secret world.
Annabel Rushton, Marketing Officer at Leighton Moss, said: “They may not be your usual cute, cuddly Easter chicks and bunnies, but the creatures in our pond are equally as exciting. From wriggly tadpoles to great diving beetles, there’s a huge variety of wonderful wildlife waiting to be found in the deep, dark depths.
“Children and adults alike just love to come and encounter the underwater world that these creatures call home – it’s a fantastic experience for all ages.”
Families can also take part in the Baby Bird Trail, a self-led activity running throughout April. Uncover facts about the reserve’s special birds and their chicks on this free trail, which visitors can enjoy anytime between 9.30am-4pm.
There are two pond dipping sessions to choose from; either 11.30am-1 pm or 1.30pm-3pm.
The cost is £4 per child (Wildlife Explorer members £2) and the activity is recommended for children over the age of five, who must be accompanied by an adult. Booking is essential - call the reserve on 01524 701601.
