SEDBERGH School has been recognised for the work it does to offer jewellery training opportunities to students.
It has been named as Best Newcomer at British Jewellers’ Association annual members’ awards, which were held at the association’s annual Benevolent Ball in Solihull.
Sedbergh is the only school in the country with membership of the BJA and won the award by providing ‘excellent’ jewellery and silversmithing training opportunities for school students.
This year, the school’s design department launched a summer course for both adults and children.
It saw their first cohort of pupils embark on Jewellery Product Design at A-level, and welcomed Christine Davies as ‘Jeweller in Residence’.
Simon Arnold, head of design, said: "Winning this award is a huge achievement for the department and it is great to see the industry supporting our initiative to spread awareness of the diversity of careers that are on offer with in it.
“The nomination alone acknowledged the important work we are doing, training the next generation of jewellers, but to win it demonstrates the support we have for whichwe are very grateful.
“Pupils here now have commercial level manufacturing capabilities and they benefit from regular visits from outside speakers.”
