TWO Kirkby Lonsdale students have been recognised for their commitment and support to their community.
Joshua Norman and Rachael Todner, assistant head boy and girl at Queen Elizabeth School, received certificates at a Cumbria County Council’s South Lakeland Local Committee.
The certificates, which recognise their positive involvement in the decision-making of Kirkby Lonsdale Town Council, were presented by committee chairman Coun Geoff Cook.
Joshua and Rachael are co-opted members of the town council and attend meetings to provide a young people’s perspective on local matters, as well as suggesting new topics for discussion.
Coun Cook said: “It’s wonderful Joshua and Rachael are so involved in their local community. They are terrific role models for other young people.”
Coun Allan Muirhead, town council chairman, added: “We value having a younger perspective on our deliberations, which is important because many of the decisions the council takes are long term and will have a greater impact on younger members of our community.”
