ALMOST 450 debts with a combined total value of more than £1.1million have been resolved in Eden between April and September, Cumbria’s local committee for Eden has been told.
Councillors heard that over the past six months the newly-formed EdenSave Credit Union and the Money Advice Service, delivered by Citizens’ Advice and funded by the county, had made ‘very good progress’ in the district.
Since the new Money Advice contract started in April the 450 debts that have been resolved represent more than 100 people helped.
The county has had a Money Advice service since 2007 and around 9,000 people have received help, advice and support over this period.
The EdenSave Credit Union is based in Penrith, but outreach facilities with payment points are planned at Appleby and Kirkby Stephen.
